Great River

We did it! We made it to Girona! Holy time change. Here's a map of our travels. See numbered descriptions below.

1. We packed up and left The Blue House, which can best be depicted by an infinite journey up and down stairs.

2. I almost drove the Tesla to MN, but bailed at the prospect of 24 hours (with stops to charge) in the car along with the children. I found a grain of sanity the night before and bought last minute plane tickets. Grandma swept us from the butter-soaked pancake house in Minneapolis to Duluth, the Zenith of the Unsalted Seas, while we waited for Ryan to drive the van and our luggage across the country.

3. We watched giant ships sail under the Areal Bridge and ate our weight in baked goods while Ryan finished the rest of the logistics. Thanks Ryan! The marriage license has been apostiled. Woot!

4. Back together again at the Minneapolis Airport! This is what we brought with us for the year.

5. We flew to Iceland. This is the creepy cat picture that was outside our room in the Akurike Hotel in Iceland last September. Look at its toes! It has become the country's mascot in my mind's eye.

6. The kids slept for 1.5-2.5 hours total over a 24 hour period. The only means of survival was to build a fort from bike boxes a luggage while waiting for transportation at the Barcelona Airport.

7. Ryan rented a van and drove all of our stuff north to Girona, while I tried to corral the Tasmanian Devils.

8. After crossing l'Onyar, as new citizens of Girona, we proudly used our very poor Catalan to order gelat. "Voldria lila!" I would like purple. Hehe!

'Bilbo used often to say there was only one Road; that it was like a great river; its springs were at every doorstep, and every path was its tributary. "It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door," he used to say. "You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.'"
